E ‘Ai Kākou! Episode 4

Description: The title of this episode is ‘Aipono. Host Sharon Odom and guests would like to focus on the fact that as Native Hawaiians, we have tradition and culture that we can use to build a foundation of healthy lifestyle and eating habits. We have to tap into this traditional knowledge to educate our families and communities so that we can be a strong and vibrant society. This week they will be visiting the Niau family on Kaua‘i who will be sharing their family tradition of harvesting pa‘akai. Next, they'll visit with Mark Paikuli-Stride of Aloha ‘Āina, Kaliko Amona of the Kōkua Hawaii Foundation, and Herbert Hoe. They are all involved in programs that promote taking care of our land, our resource and ourselves. Special guests will be haumāna from Hakipu‘u Charter school who are enrolled in a school program that promotes health and wellness. They will be preparing a full meal: salmon-tomato kabobs, fishball soup, chicken stuffed with ‘ulu, kalo and ‘uala, salad and a fruit and haupia parfait with a guava sauce.
